Water Quiz 2021/2022 – Grand Finale

The Grand Finale of the Water Quiz was held virtually on Zoom platform on January 8th, 2022. Students (27) from Badulla,Monaragala, Kilinochchi, and Mullaitivu districts connected with the Rain Centre at Pelawatta from their district centers.

The event began with a welcome address by Mr. M M M Aheeyar, Chairman of the Lanka Rain Water Harvesting Forum who gave a brief introduction to the event and welcome to the participants. The final round was conducted in two categories: primary (Grade 4 – 5) and secondary (Grade 8-10). Participants had to face three competitive rounds which include water related questions, crossword puzzles and spot the pictures. Panel of judges, Ms. Nisansala Waidyarathna, Director, Planning and Monitoring of Ministry of Water Supply, Ms. Rehana Cuttilan of USAID, and Mr. M M M Aheeyar, Chairman of the Lanka Rain Water Harvesting Forum also a  Senior Researcher at IWMI was supported by district level judges from Department of Education Kilinochchi, National Water Supply & Drainage Board Badulla and Monaragala.

The Winners in the Primary Category are as follows:

  • Winner – I Gajana , Mu/ Suthanthirapuram Tamil Vidyalayam
  • 1st Runner Up – R M Akila Indrajith Premathissa , B/ D S Senanayake Primary School
  • 1 st Runner Up – D M Sashini Nimeshika Bandara, Mo/ Dombaghawela Maha Vidyalaya

  • 2 nd Runner Up – R M Chamodya Naduni – B/ Uduhawara Maha Vidyalaya
  • 2 nd Runner Up – W M Piyumi Kaveesha – Mo/ Balaharuwa Kanishta Vidyalaya
Water Quiz Secondary Category WInners

The Chief Guest of the occasion Hon. Minister of Education, Mr. Dinesh Gunawardane, addressing the students emphasized the importance of water conservation for the future and following the examples set up by Sri Lanka’s ancient kings on rain water harvesting practices. He appreciated the students for their efforts and congratulated the winners. Delivering the vote of thanks, Dr. Tanuja Ariyananda, Chief Executive Officer of Lanka Rain Water Harvesting Forum, thanked the Hon Minister for his support, students for their active participation, panel of judges for their excellent facilitation and all principals and teachers and Department of Education for their support to make the event successful.The quiz competition was a new experience for both organizers and participants. All the participants in the quiz competition were enthusiastic and made the event a success.
