Networking

An information network is established on district basis linking the users, agencies, NGO’s and individuals and the National Forum. Forum is also linked with international and regional rain water organisations.

Promotion

Forum carries out an effective public promotion campaign through the following activities.

  • Demonstration Projects: to promote the concept and technologies of rain water harvesting for domestic and small scale agriculture use, on island wide
  • Workshops: workshops are organised to bring together rain water collection practitioners and national experts to share and exchange information
  • Media Programmes: regular articles and news items are published in the press, TV programmes, video and as leaflets (For further information visit “Forum in the News” page)
  • Exhibitions: participating in professional and public exhibitions
  • Awareness Programmes: for public, school children, government and non-government officials on the practices, technologies and benefits of rain water harvesting
  • School Competitions: organizing essay, poetry, painting and model competitions among school children (For further information visit “RWH Competitions in Schools” page)

    Training 

    Training is conducted to partner organisations of both government and non- government in social and technical aspects of rain water harvesting. Pool of skilled masons are established in sixteen districts (Kandy, Hambantota, Anuradhapura, Gampaha, Puttlam, Ampara, Monaragala, Trincomalee, Badulla, Jaffna, Vavuniya, Mannar, Batticaloa, Kilinochchi, Mullativu & Colombo) in the country who are trained in planning , design and constructions of rainwater harvesting systems.

    Training is also given to users of rain water harvesting systems on operation and maintenance.

    Professional training is conducted annually in partnership with Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) New Delhi. This training is for the professionals, community workers, project managers from privatesector, NGO’s and public sector. Training program covers topics on harvesting rainwater and decentralized wastewater treatment including reuse and recycle.
