GENERAL OBJECTIVE

To improve ecosystems, health, living conditions, and resilience of rural communities in the dry zone of Sri Lanka against climate change.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

  • Restore ecosystem functions and enhance water availability
  • Consolidate sustainable agricultural practices
  • Strengthen local actors in managing natural resources collectively

MAIN ACTIVITIES

Weather stations and monitoring database

Watershed management plans with communities

Household, school, and health center rainwater systems

Recharge infrastructure (wells, ponds, contour drains)

Sanitation facilities and family agro-ecological systems

Plant nurseries, drip irrigation, and beekeeping

Training on water, land management, WASH, and climate change adaptation

Youth engagement in agroforestry and water monitoring

Regional knowledge exchange and webinars

Mobile rainwater awareness unit

PROGRESS TO DATE

  • Collaboration with NWSDB Groundwater Unit at Wariyapola
  • Consultations with District Secretary, Provincial Education Director, and other key officials
  • Site visits and community meetings in Divulgane, Ehetuwewa
  • Awareness sessions for local community members on project activities and rainwater harvesting
  • Discussions with Development Officers at Ehetuwewa Divisional Secretariat
  • Training Programs to farmers on Regenerative Agriculture and water Management to farmers
