WELL WATER RECHARGING SYSTEM AT KOPAY, JAFFNA

The project focused on developing a groundwater management strategy for the Jaffna Peninsula, emphasizing the importance of rainwater collection and recharge systems. This system provides limited scale support to improve groundwater levels and quality. This project aims to create effective adaptation strategies. Collaborative research and stakeholder engagement ensure the project’s social and institutional integration. The approach combines technical knowledge and monitoring with a Multi-stakeholder Platform to support evidence-based decision-making and long-term sustainability.
Activity plan
- Selection of 20 Beneficiary households from Kyte and Kopai in Jaffna district
- Conduct awareness to community and officials in the area on the benefits of RWH
- Conduct a survey to select most suitable household to install the rainwater harvesting systems ( RWHS), based on the distance to drinking water source, low income ( samurdhi beneficiaries), Women headed , No. of Children, Disability, space available and wiliness to support
- Obtain necessary permission from authorities giving the selected beneficiary list.
- Installation of 20 Well Recharge Systems in the selected households
- Design the Project taking into account roof areas, availability of gutters, well distance for recharging
- Procure materials ( hardware, PVC) by selecting best quotation out of 3.
- Install 20 well recharge systems in selected households with the support of the beneficiaries. Valence board, unskilled labour during construction, food and accommodation for mason is expected from the beneficiary households
- Conduct Operation and Maintenance training to householders installed with RWHS
