  Seminar on Rain Water Harvesting and Ground Water Recharging  
     
 
Rainwater Harvesting (RWH) entails the collection of rain in a scientific and controlled manner for future use. Harvested rainwater is a major water supply option. It can minimize the use of treated water for secondary purposes. It reduces flooding, improves soil conservation and groundwater recharge, reduces energy consumption and can be used for agriculture.

Considering the importance and multiple benefits of rainwater harvesting, Lanka Rain Water Harvesting Forum in collaboration with National Science and Technology Commission (NASTEC) organized a seminar on Rainwater harvesting and Ground Water Recharge on Wednesday 10th November 2010 from 2.00pm to 5.00 pm at the auditorium of the National Science Foundation, 47/5, Maitland Place Colombo 07.

  The resource persons were  experts in the field from India and Egypt.  
     
 

The topic covered by the seminar were;

 
 
Continuous Contour Trenching a Tool for Watershed Development, Mr Vasant Takalkar, Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation Limited (MKCL), Pune, India
Roof top RWH and the initiative in Bangalore and Karnataka, Mr A.R. Shivakumar, Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology, Bangalore, India
Water Resources in Sudan, Prof. Badur Mabrouk, Zagazig University, Cairo, Egypt
 
     
 
A lively discussion chaired by Mr N. Hettiararachchi, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Water Supply & Drainage followed at the end of the presentation.

The seminar was well attended by eminent persons from Ministry of Water Supply and Drainage, National Water Supply and Drainage Board, UNDP, IWMI, NSF, University of Colombo and many other government and Non government organization as well the private sector.
